Prince of Peace Lutheran Church is an active faith community that lives out our Gospel calling through hospitality, both for the greater community, and through caring for each other. We are located in southwest Michigan, in the City of Portage, nestled just to the south of the slightly larger City of Kalamazoo. The congregation formed in 1963; the same year that Portage became a city.
We strive to love and serve all people, following the example of Jesus. We'd love to have you join us for worship, service, fellowship, learning, and more!
We profess our faith in the historic words of the Apostles, Nicene, and Athanasian creeds. We preach and teach in accordance with scripture, these creeds, and the Lutheran Confessions. More information about the creeds and confessions is available on the ELCA website.
Lutheran theology basics from elca.org
The ELCA confesses the Triune God — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We proclaim Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. In our preaching and teaching the ELCA trusts the Gospel as the power of God for the salvation of all who believe. ELCA teaching or theology serves the proclamation and ministry of this faith. It does not have an answer for all questions, not even all religious questions. Teaching or theology prepares members to be witnesses in speech and in action of God’s rich mercy in Jesus Christ.
