The Prince of Peace (PoP) Justice and Diversity Team is glad to present a learning hour series on Mental Health this winter. The four-week series will take place on Sunday mornings from February 11 through March 3, 2024. Each session will run from 9:15-10:15 a.m. Onsite participants should gather in the PoP Social Room in the education wing. Coffee and tea will be provided. Copies of the PowerPoint Presentations are available for download at the bottom of this page
PoP's own Gary Bischof is coordinating the series and will kick it off with the topic "Mental Health in the News-What's It all About?" (Feb 11, 2024 at 9:15 a.m.). Dr. Bischof is a professor in the Counselor Education and Counseling Psychology program at Western Michigan University, and a licensed marriage and family therapist. We are grateful to have him help sort out some of the mental health topics that regularly pop up in the news.
Other topics planned for the series include: "Local Mental Health Needs and Resources," "Supporting Family or Friends with Mental Health Challenges," and "The Church and Mental Health: An Evolving History." Watch the Sunday bulletin inserts, PoP website ( www.popportage.org/events ), and PoP Facebook page (www.facebook.com/popportage) for more information on the topic order, speaker details, and potential remote viewing options.
This series is best suited for adults and high school youth. High school, middle school, and elementary aged youth are always welcome to join the learning hour programming for those age groups, which is held in neighboring classrooms and the library of the education wing during the same 9:15-10:15a.m. time on Sundays.
